Overview
PROGRAMME OVERVIEW
This markedly interdisciplinary programme is offered collaboratively by a number of departments at Ca’ Foscari University of Venice (Department of Asian and North African Studies; Department of Philosophy and Cultural Heritage; Department of Humanities) and the University of Milan La Statale (Department of Cultural and Environmental Heritage; Department of Literary Studies, Philology and Linguistics).
Taught entirely in English, the programme is designed to explore the multi-faceted complexity of ancient civilizations that flourished in Europe, Northern Africa, and Eastern and Western Asia with the particular goal of learning about, and from, the past in order to be better capable of critically assessing the modern world’s complexities and challenges. As a result, the programme’s approach places special emphasis on the study of cultural intersection, exchange and tensions.
The degree’s study plan is organized in four areas, which together provide you with a solid knowledge and training in the study, management and promotion of the cultural heritage of various ancient civilizations:
- Tangible Cultural Heritage: history and interpretation
- Tangible Cultural Heritage: discovering, cataloguing, preserving and archiving
- Intangible Cultural Heritage: history, anthropology, philosophy, history of religions, law
- Intangible Cultural Heritage: languages and literatures

Career opportunities
As a student enrolled in this programme, you would already acquire some professional experience before graduation thanks to the programme’s obligatory curricular internship. As a graduate, you would have the preparation you need in order to seek employment in various roles contexts, including, but not limited to the following:
- Cultural operator in charge of services such as the management and/or implementation of reception services at archaeological sites, museums, exhibitions, cultural associations, foundations, or similar bodies and institutions
- Collaborator in the cataloging of cultural heritage in foundations, cultural associations, auction houses, or similar bodies and institutions
- Assistant curator in the organization of exhibitions and cultural events
- Excavation technician or assistant
- Museum technician
- Cultural communicator or consultant for the entertainment industry in projects involving a historico-cultural nature
