Overview

The master’s degree in Translation and Interpreting (TI) aims to train professionals with specific linguistic skills in the field of interpretation and translation, both specialised and literary, who are able to use IT and multimedia techniques and tools. Studies in translation, understood not only as communication but also as a primary form of mediation, address the most diverse linguistic-literary and socio-cultural issues from a comparative, intercultural and inclusive perspective.


The course offers various study paths from which to choose. Explore this programme’s study plan (Study > Study plan > Enrolled in the 2024/2025 academic year):

  • Chinese-English-Italian Translation and Interpreting
  • English-Italian Sign Language (LIS), Spanish-Italian Sign Language (LIS) Specialised Translation

The integration of courses in the two main European languages and in the most widely spoken non-European language into a single master’s degree programme, together with specialisation in both translation and interpreting, makes the Translation and Interpreting course both complete and interesting.

Programme structure

This programme includes the following components:

  • course work
  • curricular internship
  • final thesis

You can request to spend one or two semesters at a partner university through Ca’ Foscari’s exchange programmes.
Your curricular internship can be carried out either in Italy or abroad.

Career opportunities

Master’s degree graduates may be employed as professional interpreters, translators (on a freelance basis or for translation agencies), officials in international companies and organizations. They may be also hired in the following sectors: cross-linguistic communication, editing, multimedia. They may carry out research and teaching activities in the field of linguistics and translation. Moreover, they may be employed as interpreters of Italian sign language or as linguistic mediators in schools, hospitals and other communities.
