Overview

This degree programme has a historical-methodological focus and offers a solid specialised education in linguistic-philological and literary studies, training you as an expert in Italian literature and Italian linguistics as well as Italian and Romance philology with a focus on European literature.
The core of the programme is the in-depth study of the critical methods that are crucial for reading and interpreting primary, literary and documentary sources, but the degree also focuses on providing you with an increased awareness of the dialectical relationship between the past and the present, a critical approach to broad and complex problems, including those of a social nature, using the cultural background that emerges from the texts as a starting point. Depending on the curriculum you choose, you can expand your knowledge of and competencies in the Mediaeval/Renaissance field (Italian and Romance), the modern/contemporary (Italian) period or favour a broader European perspective.

This programme offers 3 curricula, or study paths, from which to choose. Explore this programme’s study plans (Study > Study plan > Enrolled in the 2023/2024 academic year):

  • European
  • Mediaeval and Renaissance Period
  • Modern and Contemporary Period
