ITALIAN
A minimum B2-level knowledge of Italian is required for enrolment.
Please make sure you upload one of the certifications we recognise as proof of your language level.

You can apply to this programme even if you have yet to obtain a language certification, but in order to complete your enrolment you will need to provide one or take a preliminary Italian language test organised either on Skype or on campus before the academic year begins.

You are exempted from needing to provide evidence of your proficiency in Italian if:
• Italian is your mother tongue; or
• you are an EU citizen (regardless of citizenship and residence).

Chinese Marco Polo students can provide a language certification indicating either a B1- or a B2-level knowledge of Italian. Chinese Marco Polo students enrolling with a certified B1-level knowledge of Italian must achieve a certified B2-level knowledge of the language by the end of the first year of their studies.

ENGLISH
A minimum B1-level knowledge of English is also required.

Exemption categories

If you do not satisfy this requirement at the moment of enrolment, you will be assigned an Additional Learning Requirement, or ALR, in English (Obbligo Formativo Aggiuntivo – OFA) that must be satisfied by the end of your first year of study (deadline of September 30) by passing an exam. Passing the ALR exam may be necessary in order to take other exams included in your study plan.

This is a limited-admission programme that requires you to take an online written entry test called the TOLC-E, which is offered by the test provider CISIA. This test evaluates your knowledge of mathematics, logic and reading comprehension, and it can be taken in English or in Italian. Alternatively, you can provide the results of the SAT.

• Applicants not requiring a visa must register for and take the entry test and respond to one of the calls for applications posted in the Admission section of the programme’s official web page. There are two selection rounds, each with its own call for applications: one in the spring (call published in March 2025) and one in the summer (call published in June 2025). It is possible to substitute the TOLC-E test with an SAT; to see how this worked for the 2024/25 academic year, you can consult the calls published in the spring of 2024 in the Admission section of the programme’s official web page indicated above.
• Before applying for admission to this programme, non-European applicants requiring a visa must take one of the recognized tests. To understand how this test is taken into account, please consult the Guidelines for admission to the bachelor’s degree in the economics and management area and hospitality programmes for non-European students requiring a visa. It is also possible to substitute the TOLC-E test with an SAT; for details about how to do so and the accepted score range, please consult the guidelines cited earlier.
